Gift Card Not Swiping Correctly

When swiping a gift card, if it is showing characters other than numbers (ie = ? ; characters), go into backoffice > global config > Payment Processing.  Be sure the proper GiftCardDivinding/Ending/Starting characters are there.  Dividing Character should be =   (equal sign) ,  Ending Character should be ? (question mark), and Starting Character should be  ; (semi-colon).


Note, if they have already registered a gift card prior to those character changes, you must go into TblGift and edit that gift card number, removing the affected characters.  Using the above picture, the =8002 had to be removed.  Have them swipe card again to check balance.


Also for good measure, check track settings on the card reader, ensuring it us using Track2 only. See Swiper Guide for utility info.
