Windows 7 End of Life

Windows 7 End of Life

  1. We do not use Win 7 home, pro, or the like.  Some systems are using specific variant of Win 10.  Our older systems use/used POSReady 7 which is a variant designed for POS guys like us.  There is an EOL, but that is October 2021.  Even then, MSFT has released security fixes for previous versions long after the EOL.
  2. The merchants will not have to replace the entire computer, just the hard drive for around $300 per station
  3. Nothing changes on PCI at the EOL day.
  4. The thing that killed XP for us was that the communication protocol TLS advanced and MSFT decided not to update theirs.  Secondly, our development suite had issues with XP.  Our customers made the final transition in perhaps 2017 and most of them used it as an excuse to upgrade their old hardware.  XP was originally released in 2001!
